Disturbing new footage released by the Greater Atlanta chapter of Black Lives Matter on Wednesday shows a white police officer kicking a handcuffed Black man in the face.
In the video, a police officer can be seen pulling the man from his car to the ground. As he lay handcuffed on the ground in the middle of a busy highway just outside of Lawrenceville, Georgia, another officer charges over to the pair and stomps on the man’s face.
According to the person who filmed the video, who handed over their footage to Black Lives Matter shortly after the incident, “blood splattered everywhere” when the second officer kicked the man on the ground in the face.
Black Lives Matter of Greater Atlanta wrote on their Facebook: “We are DEMANDING that Gwinnett County Police Department immediately terminate this officer who viciously kicked a HANDCUFFED BLACK MAN lying on the ground in the middle of the street (off Sugarloaf Parkway) without cause and without merit.”
The group will seek to have criminal charges against the officer.
“We’re all trying to make sense of this but you can’t really make sense to such a kick to the face,” Maejor Page, the president of Black Lives Matter of Greater Atlanta told The NY Daily News. “We don’t know what happened, we don’t know what type of suspect this is, but this is going to have to be dealt with — we’re going to demand some answers on this.”
