He is the co-founder of computer book publisher Peachpit Press and is the author of Gangs of America: The Rise of Corporate Power and the Disabling of Democracy (2003, 2005) and Climate Hope: On the Front Lines of the Fight Against Coal (2010). He served as staff director of the Dakota Resource Council and as a columnist for Publish! magazine. He holds an undergraduate degree from Stanford University and a master’s degree from UC Berkeley.
