Chicago school officials announced Thursday that 61 schools within the city will close, representing 13 percent of the district’s overall remaining schools and the largest school closure sweep in U.S. history, according to the Chicago Tribune. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the closures are a result in declining enrollment and a budget deficit.
