Little Riley Rieser, 3, died in an Oct. 31, 2013, house fire after his stepdad was stopped from reentering the house to try and save the boy.
All he wanted to do was rescue his young stepson from the burning house he’d just escaped, but police used a Taser on the desperate dad several times during the Oct. 31, 2013 fire.
Little Riley Rieser, who was 3, died of the injuries he sustained that day while stepdad Ryan Miller sat in a holding cell, and now Miller is suing the city of Louisiana, Mo.
“He was my best friend,” Miller told the Louisiana Press Journal after the fire. “He was everybody’s best friend. If you would have met him, you would have loved him. He was the joy of my life.”
Police zapped Miller three different times — including once while he was handcuffed — and still he tried to get back inside.
“I was hysterical, yes, because I wanted to save my son,” he told the newspaper. The dad was never charged with a crime.
He’s suing the city of 3,355 along the Mississippi River, alleging excessive, negligent infliction of emotional distress, wrongful death and false imprisonment, according to the March 12 suit obtained by Courthouse News.
